Dr. Monica Elkins- Advocate for Education
Dr. Elkins has been an educator for more than 30 years and worked in the capacity of an elementary and secondary teacher where she taught K, 1st, 4th grade, Family & Consumer Sciences, as well as she served as a school administrator at the elementary and secondary levels. She is a National professional development trainer with Restorative Practices and Time To Teach.
She believes that every child can and will learn when they have a teacher standing before them who cares about their best interest, who builds a positive relationship with them and most importantly, a teacher who is willing to teach them according to their learning style.
Dr. Elkins is very active in the community where she serves in the following organizations: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Eastern Star, South Carolina Schools Board Association, South Carolina Association for School Administrators, South Carolina Alliance of Black Educators, American Business Women's Association, Columbia Area Reading Council, Youth Arbitrator with Richland County Sheriff’s Dept, Life member with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post # 4262. Also, she is a Former Board member with the South Carolina Education Association (SCEA) and Richland County Education Association (RCEA).
Dr. Elkins lives by the proverb: "If you give a man a fish, he will eat for a day; teach him how to fish, he will eat for a lifetime."
